​Course Description: 

The Stages of Trauma and Recovery (STAR) model is an innovative public mental health model which empowers and teaches individuals to claim ownership of their mental well-being and healing process throughout the lifespan. 
 
STAR and its trauma-responsive techniques are intended to become as relevant as The Stages of Grief and bridges a continuum of care to the ACEs. STAR provides a universal framework and language that can be used across systems including educational, community organizations, substance abuse, mental and medical health systems and corporation's HR/EAP departments. 

STAR is an evidence-based model based on a comprehensive body of research and clinical experience. STAR identifies and explains the effects of trauma and teaches accessible, affordable and sustainable evidence-based trauma-responsive techniques intended to be integrated into daily living activities in the same way as healthy nutrition and exercise. This practice provides early prevention and interruption of the consequences of trauma (substance abuse, obesity, suicidality and other mental and medical health conditions). The trauma-responsive techniques invite participants to experience mental health interventions in non-traditional, holistic ways and at their discretion. The trauma-responsive techniques can easily be personalized and encourage participants to incorporate their own cultural rituals and traditions. 

Presenters: 

Lizette Ubides, LCSW-C: was born and raised in the Bronx, NY and is a Graduate from New York 
University the Ehrenkranz School of Social Work. She has provided mental health services and treatment to mixed aged and at-risk individuals within various clinical settings for 20+ years. Ms. Ubides has led several startup programs and collaborative projects: The Bronx Truancy Prevention Program and The Community of Hope Collaborative, Baltimore City. She has held several administrative positions within the Westchester County Child Advocacy Center, Sheppard Pratt, and Building Families for Children. Ms. Ubides presently works for Johns Hopkins, JHHCG. She is a Field Instructor for The University of Maryland and Hood College. Ms. Ubides is a certified SAMSHA, Train the Trainer in Trauma-Informed Care and a Graduate Adjunct Professor for School of Criminal Justice at the University of Baltimore. Ms. Ubides is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Responsive Recovery and the co-author of the innovative public mental health model: The Stages of Trauma and Recovery (STAR) Model. Kate Travers, LCSW-C: a graduate of University of Maryland has 20+ years of experience working with 
trauma survivors in systems ranging from international adoptions to the prison system to treatment foster care. Ms. Travers was a regular contributor to Fostering Families magazine and had several chapters published in The Kinship Care Toolbox and maintains a parenting blog. Ms. Travers’s primary focus of treatment is to enable clients to heal their attachment and trauma wounds. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). Ms. Travers is a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner and Educator. She has worked with trauma survivors in all stages of life. Ms. Travers is the Chief Innovations Officer at Responsive Recovery and the co-author of the innovative public mental health model: The Stages of Trauma and Recovery (STAR) Model. (©2019).

Live, In-Person Workshop 

The Stages of Trauma & Recovery (STAR) Model: 3.0 Workshop is a live in-person workshop for beginner or intermediate mental health professionals. All participants must be present for the start of the workshop and stay the entire day to earn CE credits. The workshop attendance is 4 hours long including the lunch break and earns 3 general CEs. Certificates of Completion will be distributed at the end of the day upon completion of the course evaluation at the end of the workshop. Evaluations must be completed before leaving the workshop.

Refund Policy: Cancellations made 10 or more days in advance will receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 10 days prior to the event will not be refunded. Appeals may be made in writing.

Restricts access to a participant’s account and related information and grants access only to authorized individuals. 
Maintains participant course and performance information securely and confidentially. 
Restricts access to online courses, webinars, and related materials for which certificates of credit are provided and grant access only to authenticated and authorized users. 
Handles credit card information securely in a manner consistent with the most current defined PCI security standards. 
Will not share data with third parties must inform participants and allow them to opt out. 
Maintains that any data breach will be managed by electronic spyware and all parties will be informed of any breach upon system notice.  

 
 
The Stages of Trauma and Recovery (STAR) Model: 3.0 Workshop #4549 is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to be offered by Responsive Recovery, LLC as an individual course. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE course approval period: 11/28/2022-11/28/2024. Social workers completing this course receive 3 general continuing education credits.
